Glitter is in

So, I decorate banks (Barnes Bank) for the holidays. My mom has done it for years and is handing over the reins to me. While I’ve been out searching for decor, I’ve noticed that GLITTER is everywhere you go. (The sparkley stuff, not Maria Carey’s stupid movie). I’ve concluded that Glitter is in

If you’re looking for a few ways to bling up your house for the holidays, here are some fun things to do. If you’re not in the mood for a craft, I have found glittered items everywhere (Taiwan Imports, Kmart, even Dollar Tree!) I put a bunch of glittered and non-glittered ornaments in a trifle bowl on my dining room table. It’s pretty cute. Also hung a few glitter balls around the house. Makes me happy when I see them!

Snowflake How-To
1. Enlarge Templates as desired (5 to 12 inches in diameter).

2. Tape to a piece of heavy mat board or smooth cardboard; place over a protective surface, such as a self-healing mat.

3. Using a utility knife, cut through layers to create snowflake shape. Remove template. Using a medium paintbrush, coat one side of shape with craft glue. Sprinkle with fine glitter. Let glue dry; shake off excess glitter.

4. Repeat, using glass-shard glitter. Repeat process on other side. Using silver thread, hang snowflakes from removable adhesive hooks.

Cute Cookie Rolls

This is a cute idea for neighbors, guests, etc. Pretty easy and the cutest way I’ve ever seen cookies packaged! It would also be cute with cookie cutters.

Cookie Dough Gift Packages

{Wrap It Up}

Patterned wrapping paper, stationery, and cheerful paper scraps add graphic appeal to homemade cookie-dough logs bundled in waxed paper and secured with ribbon. Present your edible gift with sprinkles and tiny chocolate chips packaged in clear plastic boxes, available at containerstore.com. Print a copy of the recipe on the underside of the paper as an added surprise.

When thoughtfully packaged, logs of your favorite cookie dough are a creative way to share family recipes with friends. Include festive decorations, such as Nestle’s nonpareil-topped Toll House Mint Gems (99 cents for a 3-ounce box). celebrationcorner.com.

Pumpkin Pie Bars

These were a picture on the Yahoo home page, when I saw them I actually said “Oooooo” out loud. I think they look delicious! Since I get out of cooking Thanksgiving dinner this week, I just might have to give these babies a whirl!

Pumpkin Pie Bars

  1. 1 1/3 cups flour
  2. 1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  3. 3/4 cup granulated sugar, divided
  4. 3/4 cup cold butter or margarine
  5. 1 cup old-fashioned or quick-cooking oats, uncooked
  6. 1/2 cup chopped PLANTERS Pecans
  7. 1 (8 ounce) package PHILADELPHIA Cream Cheese, softened
  8. 3 eggs
  9. 1 (15 ounce) can pumpkin
  10. 1 tablespoon pumpkin pie spice
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line 13×9-inch baking pan with foil; grease foil lining. Mix flour, brown sugar and 1/4 cup of the granulated sugar in medium bowl; cut in butter with pastry blender or 2 knives until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in oats and pecans. Reserve 1 cup of the oat mixture; press remaining mixture onto bottom of pan. Bake 15 min.
  2. Beat cream cheese, remaining 1/2 cup sugar, eggs, pumpkin and pumpkin pie spice in small bowl with electric mixer on medium speed until well blended. Pour over crust; sprinkle with reserved crumb mixture.
  3. Bake 25 min. Lift from pan using foil handles; cool completely. Cut into 24 bars. Store leftover bars in tightly covered container in refrigerator.

Yield: 24 servings
