6 Things to Do Every Day

Does anyone else feel like all you do is clean all day? And clean the same areas over and over and over. This never ending process of following my boys (Cohen AND Greg) and cleaning up after their messes gets so frusterating!

Martha has a list of 6 things to do every day. So from now on, as long as I do these 6, I’ll feel good about house. (yeah, right!) It’s a good place to start though, eh?

Six Things to Do Every Day

1. Make the Bed
Tidiness begets tidiness. A crisply made bed makes the whole room seem more orderly, which makes it less likely that you’ll let other things — such as clothes and papers — pile up around it.

2. Manage Clutter
Whenever you leave a room, take a quick look around for anything that isn’t where it should be. Pick it up and put it where it belongs. Insist that everyone in the household do the same.

3. Sort the Mail
Take a few minutes to open, read, and sort mail as soon as you bring it inside. Keep a trash bin near your sorting area for junk mail. Drop other mail into one of four in-boxes: personal correspondence, bills, catalogs, and filing.

4. Clean as You Cook
Instead of filling the sink with pots and dishes, wash them or put them in the dishwasher as you prepare a meal.

5. Wipe Up Spills While They’re Fresh
Whether it’s tomato sauce on the cooktop or makeup on the bathroom counter, almost anything is faster and easier to remove if you attend to it immediately.

6. Sweep the Kitchen Floor
Every evening once you’ve finished washing up after dinner, sweep the floor. This will keep tough-to-clean dirt and grime from building up, which will make the weekly mopping much quicker.

Blog Books

I know a lot of you use your blogs as a journal. Design Mom posted a great site where you can get your blog turned into a really great book. The prices are very reasonable and it looks like they do a great job.

St. Pattys Decor

Most of the decor for St. Patricks Day is U-G-L-Y, (you ain’t got no alibi) it’s ugly, yup, yup, it’s ugly. Anywaaaaay, what I did find I just made a few adjustments and most if it turned out pretty cute.

So if you’re looking to decorate for Old St. Patty’s, here’s a few tips.

I found these at Roberts for $2, they are made from thick felt. They came with a leather strap attached (hello?) so I just replaced it with ribbon.

I also made another one of my trusty signs, if anyone wants one, the total ends up being around $5 and I can send one to a Kinko’s near you. Laughing

I did the same thing on this one. Came with an ugly beaded wire. $5.49 at Jo-Anns. Ohh, so sparkly.

I also bought these shamrocks and put them through out the house. I tied ribbon on some and just stuck up the others. $2 for a pack of 8

I also found these letters at Jo-Anns. Only $0.50 each. They come in silver too if your looking for fun glitter letters. Can you tell I love glitter?!?!

Elle’s Studio- St. Pattys Day Tags

These tags are a fun little treat for St. Pattys day. Only $2.75 for 12 from Elle’s Studio Etsy Shop. They’d be great attached to a green chinese take-out container ($1 at Michaels or Zurchers) filled with green cookies and wrapped with a gold ribbon.

Wheat Grass Decor

These are the decorations I made for the bank for St. Patricks Day. If anyone wants to make them, they were super easy.

They are just claypots (from Michaels, $1) with wheatgrass and then vellum paper with two thin ribbons (from Michaels) wrapped around them. You could use any paper or material. The vellum was kind of hard to work with. Tissue paper might even be cute.

You could also grow regular grass or any kind of plant. If you do want to grow wheatgrass, (and then juice it when your done) I ordered it online from www.wheatgrasskits.com They send you top soil, fertilizer and the seeds, trays, instructions and a book. I only used about half of the seeds to grow 40 pots, so you can see that they send you plenty. It takes a lot of watering the first three days, and after that, they sprout like crazy. In one week, the grass is about 3 inches tall.

Then the shamrocks were also $1 at JoAnn’s Fabrics. But you could put any shamrock on a floral wire for the same effect.

Plant Shamrocks!

At Target, in the dollar section, they have little tiny starter kits to grow your own shamrocks for $1. Might be a fun little St. Patricks Day project. Get it started and then tranfer it to a unique pot or container for some shamrock luck.

Lauren Alane Birds

These little birds are the cutest thing I’ve seen in awhile. Created by Lauren Alane and posted by Design Mom. They all look like they have little personalities.

I have no idea how much they are, aparently they are so popular that they are on back order! They look very well made. I love the ones with glasses and aprons and such.

I’ll try to remember to do a follow up. Here’s the info. So cute!
