Aebleskivers

One of my brides, Becca, gave me the greatest gift as a thank you. It’s an aebleskiver pan with a recipe for aebleskivers and syrup. We had them on Christmas morning. It’s a dutch pancake and they are DELICIOUS! Very light and sweet. I actually like them better than pancakes, and I love pancakes!

$12.99 from Spoons ‘n Spice
SCI Small Cast Iron Aebleskiver Pan

I confess, I didn’t prep the pan properly and so they didn’t work how they were supposed to the first time. But that is good, because we just made them like pancakes and they were still delicious! So, if you don’t have a pan, you can still make them.

Aebleskivers

Ingredients
2 C Buttermilk
3 eggs, seperated
1/2 tsp salt
2 tsp sugar
2 C flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp soda

Directions
Beat yolks then add sugar, salt and buttermilk. Next add flour, soda and baking powder. Beat egg whites to stiff peaks then fold gently into mixture. Cook on stove top in aebleskiver pan, turning to brown on all sides with sharp objects. Top with syrup, powdered sugar and or jam.

Buttermilk Syrup

Ingredients
1 C Buttermilk
1 cube butter
1 C sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp baking soda

Directions
Bring sugar, butter and buttermilk to a boil over the stove until sugar is dissolved. (Be sure to use a bigger pot as syrup as syrup with increase in volume when baking soda is added). Remove from heat and add vanilla. Whisk in baking soda. Syrup will foam, bubble and increase in volume.  Serve in place of maple syrup on breakfast, french toast, waffles, pancakes, aebleskivers, etc.
Here is what they are supposed to look like…

Christmas Wreaths

Christmas is over, can you believe it? It always flies by.

I did make my wreath from left over wrapping paper from my earlier post (see below). It was super easy and pretty fun.

But now I am wanting to make this one, found on Design Sponge through Party Perfect. It’s made out of dry cleaning bags. It’s prettier than the paper one in my opinion and I think it could stay up through January.

And I am also wanting to make this one, found on  Black Eiffel also through Party Perfect, because I LOVE pom poms and it’s so whimsical and fun! Next year, next year…

Say goodbye to hand-cut snowflakes taped to windows. Instead, try a curtain of whimsical flakes hung on strands of dental floss.

Reused Wrapping Paper Wreath

What a GREAT use for all of that leftover holiday paper. I have always been a ‘paper ripper’ myself. Never one of those that carefully remove each piece of tape and slowly unwrap, then fold the paper up carefully to save it again. I think if you are a ripper or a careful saver, this craft is for you!

Reused Wrapping Paper Wreath from Instructables found on Paper Crave.

Might be a fun one to do with the kids!

Christmas Fudge Jars with Candy Cane

My neighbor Jordan Frazier, handed out the CUTEST neighbor gift ever. I gasped when I saw it. That’s how cute it is. These pictures don’t do it justice. It’s a wee little bottle with a silver cap of hot fudge. The instructions say to warm in the microwave, pour over your favorite ice cream and then crush the candy cane on top. SO clever! And the packaging and tags were just darling.

I’m not surprised, she’s really cute neighbor! Seriously, save this idea for next year!

Thanks Jordan!
